Liquor sales in TASMAC outlets touch Rs 500 crore mark during 3 Pongal holidays

Liquor sales touched Rs 500 crore mark in three days during pongal festival in Tamil Nadu. Out of 5,140 TASMAC shops, Tamil Nadu government reaped over Rs 500 crore in just three days.

TN government's announcement of six days holiday during pongal festival resulted in the huge hike, according to an official.

A TASMAC official said, "On 14th Jan sales racked to Rs 143 crore and on 15th Jan sales soared upto Rs 209 crore". It was Rs 133 crore and Rs 204 crore in the previous year respectively. 

This year, TASMAC outlets witnessed an overall 10% increase in the sale of liquor.
