Draft rolls, early budget herald polls

In a related development, the state had also begun the process of notifying the Hosur MLA seat as vacant. The seat became vacant due to the conviction of Balakrishna Reddy, sitting MLA and former AIADMK minister, for damaging public property. Assembly secretary K Srinivasan had also written to the State Election Department in this regard.

The Union government and the state government will be tabling its budget early this year owing to Lok Sabha polls. State officials had also begun the budget presentation works and the EC had also asked the states to transfer the officers serving in a same post or district for more than three years. February 28, has been set as deadline to complete logistic works, informed election department officials said.

“As per the directions of the EC the special summary revision, 2019 is now under way. The draft rolls were published on September 1, 2018 and the claims of objections were received from that day to October 31, 2018. As per the extended schedule, the EC had prescribed the final rolls to be published on January 21, 2019,” CEO Satyabrata Sahoo said in a statement. All these activities require some more time and hence the EC has permitted to publish the final electoral rolls on January 31, 2019. The final rolls for all TN Assembly Constituencies will be published on January 31, the CEO said.

To prepare error-free electoral rolls, two meetings of booth level officers and booth level agents of the recognised political parties were conducted so as to exchange the inputs, feedback regarding inclusions and deletions, the CEO said.
