All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK) leader R Sarath Kumar on Friday asked Centre to focus on real issues affecting people and not on trivial matters.
Chennai
Sarath Kumar, in a statement, said, “Centre had announced 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker sections, but in reality, lower caste people are suffering the most as in Odisha a 17-year-old Dalit boy carried the body of his mother in a bicycle because he was rejected ambulance citing his caste.”
The incident which happened in Sundargarh district, in Odisha, where the teenager carried the body of his mother in a bicycle created widespread anguish across the country. The pathetic condition of the health care system of Odsiha and the Central government was blamed behind the incident.
Sarath Kumar said that the lower castes are still facing discrimination across the country where they are not allowed to access basic services offered by the government. “Unfortunately, the Union government which should have taken steps to prevent atrocities in the name of caste is a silent spectator to such incidents,”he said.
He demanded the Union government to enact stringent laws to prevent atrocities against Dalits.
