According to police, Vijayaveni took part in a Pongal festival last night at Manamedu village where her car was also decorated by the volunteers. After the function, she left for home. However, the driver Manivannan went for a round with the relatives of Vijayaveni.

On the road, Manivannan asked a van driver to clear the road for the car. There erupted a quarrel in which Manivannan was assaulted by those from NR Congress activist Gunaseelan’s house. In the melee the car’s windscreen was broken. Vijayaveni, her husband Venkatesan and supporters gathered in front of Gunaseelan’s house and blocked the road demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.

Minister Kandasamy came to the spot and held talks with Vijayaveni and assured her of action.

Subsequently, police arrested Gunaseelan and are on the lookout for Sundaravarman, Tamil Kudimagan and Tamil Kaavalan who are absconding.
