VCK State deputy secretary (Traders Wing) Alagarsamy alias Raja (45), a realtor by profession, was proceeding to his house after work, when unidentified men, who came in a car, blocked his path. The gang kidnapped Raja in his own car under knife point.

They took Raja to Viralimalai in Pudukkottai district and reportedly asked him to pay Rs 1 crore as ransom for releasing him. After negotiations, Raja accepted to pay them Rs 40 lakh.

They then pushed him out of the vehicle on the Tiruchy-Madurai bypass road. However, the gang stole Rs 4 lakh in cash and 18 sovereigns from the VCK cadre, besides escaping with his car.

On receiving information about his location, Raja’s brother Ramesh Kumar rushed to the spot and rescued him. Later, Raja filed a case with the KK Nagar police.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that there was a professional rivalry between Raja and two others, identified as Ashok and Raja, both belonging to Chennai. The duo, who were his business partners earlier, parted ways with the VCK cadre. Ashok had reportedly been threatening Raja in recent days for a settlement of money. Further investigations are on.
