According to official data, 1.88 lakh of them booked tickets using the Online Ticket Reservation System (OTRS). It yielded a revenue of Rs 901.95 lakh for the State-run corporation.
Nearly 71,916 persons reserved tickets in advance from the city. Likewise, 1.16 lakh persons reserved tickets just before the journey.
“We had only anticipated nearly six lakh passengers for this Pongal season. We performed well in comparison to the previous years. Many passengers used various online private applications, too, to book tickets. This created a favorable situation and tilted the numbers towards us,” said a top official attached to the SETC.
“Within 10 days of listing SETC buses on private applications, we registered an uptick in numbers of persons travelling on the SETC buses.”
For the onward journey, 67,283 persons from the city booked online tickets and 42,274 tickets were booked from other districts. For the return journey, 4,633 passengers booked tickets from the city and 74,515 tickets were booked from other districts.
