No Pongal gift, elderly besiege ration shop
Glitches resulting in ration card holders blocking roads for not being issued Pongal gifts continued in Tiruvannamalai district. However, this time, it was the senior citizens who laid siege to a fair price shop at Velapadi village near Arni on Monday.

Tiruvannamalai
Around 40 elderly persons attached to this shop complained that they were not given rice for the past two years and that there was no official action despite having lodged several complaints. Later, the officials informed them that they were not issued rice as their names were not registered with the shop. Enraged, they demanded that they be given the Pongal gifts, which were denied to them. However, when one person in the group received the gift, they pulled up the officials and demanded to know why the particular person alone was obliged by the Fair Price Shop.
When they received a WhatsApp message that the cash portion was given not to the card holder, but to his friend who signed on his behalf, the irked senior citizens besieged the shop and demanded action.
