Since the plastic ban, the prison bazaar commenced to distribute cloth bags made by their inmates, which had a good response among the public. Meanwhile, the prison authorities have planned to serve sweet pongal for its regular customers.
On Sunday, as per the decision, the inmates made sweet pongal as one of the menu in their bazaar. They made the pongal in earthen pots and distributed them in earthen plates to the customers.
The prison Superintendent, Murugesan, inaugurated the sale. “As the people are aware about the plastic ban, we have decided to use the earthen utensils. We also distribute water in earthen cups and it has been well received among our customers,” Murugesan said.
The prison bazaar has decided to serve food on earthen utensils till January 17, the superintendent added.
