KG classes in govt schools to begin on Jan 12

The majority of work regarding the recruitment of teachersand setting up of classes is over. The State has also started theadmission process at Anganwadi centres.

A senior official from the School Education Department said that LKG and UKG classes will be made available at 2,381 anganwadi centers in government middles schools across Tamil Nadu.

The official, however, said that in the initial stage, all identified anganwadi centers will not have LKG and UKG classes. “A few classes will be inaugurated in the beginning phase and rest of the classes will be set up gradually at all the centres,” he added.

The government is introducing kindergarten classes to retain students till high school. The government will spend more than Rs 7 crore towards this initiative.

“Each anganwadi centre will be given Rs 5,000 to procure educational kits, including blackboards. Tamil Nadu State Council of Educational Research and Training has already prepared a syllabus for pre-school children. It was prepared by teachers, officials from the Social Welfare Department, authorities from Integrated Child Development Services and experts from New Delhi,” he added.

The official said that the class duration for the kids will be less than four hours. He said that there are several domains to develop gross motor skills, fine motor skills, sensory skills, cognitive, language and socio-emotional skills. Several interesting classroom procedures have been introduced for pre-KG students and there are different time spans to impart various skills to the students.
