Colleges withholding original certificates of faculty warned
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has warned that universities and its affiliated colleges in Tamil Nadu will be de-recognised if the management forces its professors and lecturers to submit original certificates during their employment.

Many professors in Tamil Nadu have lodged a complaint with the council, asking AICTE authorities to investigate the issue.
AICTE’s specific guidelines to the State came against the backdrop of certain universities and colleges in the State collecting original academic certificates from the staff at the time of joining service to ensure that they don’t resign their jobs. The management of some institutions, particularly certain self-financing colleges, make new recruits surrender their all original certificates, said AICTE.
The council clarified that withholding of original certificates by the authorities on any ground is illegal and improper and said this was clearly being done to retain the staff. Universities have been asked to return original certificates in possession with immediate effect.
In line with the instruction, Anna University has already warned all affiliated institutes of strict action if they hold back certificates of faculty.
