24,708 special buses for Pongal: TN Transport Minister
Minister for Transport MR Vijayabhaskar on Wednesday announced 24,708 new buses will be operated to ease congestion during Pongal festival.

As the Pongal festival is around the corner, thousands of people would travel to their native places from various districts of Tamil Nadu. In order to contain the crowd, Transport Minister MR Vijayabhaskar on Wednesday announced 24,708 special buses and opened 30 ticket booking counters.
The Minister launched ticket booking counter in Koyambedu bus terminus and told that the special buses would be operated from January 11 to January 14. "14,263 buses will be operated to various parts of Tamil Nadu from Chennai alone," he added.
26 counters were opened in Koyambedu, two in Tambaram Sanatorium, one each in Poonamallee and Madhavaram to cater the need of commuters.
Regarding the regulation of omni bus fare, he said, “We will continue to take strict action against those overcharging the passengers”.
