Vijayakanth raps EC over rescinding of bypoll

Referring to the rescinding of Tiruvarur by-election, Vijayakanth, in a statement, said, “EC should have consulted the state before announcing the by-election for Tiruvarur and after announcement they should not have cancelled it.”

The DMDK had criticised EC for taking hasty decision in announcing Tiruvarur by-poll. “EC had referred to damages caused by Cyclone Gaja for cancellation of election. The entire world knows about the natural calamity and the destruction caused by it. But the decision of EC to announce the election in cyclone affected area was seen as a mockery by the people,” he said.

He also said that neither the people of Tiruvarur demanded election for their constituency nor they demanded to cancel the election. The decision to rescind the by-poll received mixed response as major political parties welcomed it but minor parties and independent candidates of Tiruvarur constituency opposed it.
