Woman dies with child over domestic quarrel

The deceased were identified as Selvarani and her daughter Rohini. Selvarani doused herself with kerosene, set self on fire and tightly hugged her infant child.

She had allegedly gone to her mother’s house at East Rajapalayam village near Attur, following some issues with her husband, Sathish (25), an auto driver from Tiruchy, whom she had married in 2016.

“Selvarani’s mother used to frequently scold her for leaving her husband. Depressed over the developments, Selvarani set herself on fire when she was alone in the house on Saturday night. She then hugged her baby,” police said.

The neighbours, who rushed inside the house on hearing the loud screams of the mother and the daughter, extinguished the fire and rushed the mother and the child to Attur government hospital.

However, both the mother and baby died without responding to treatment in a short while. A case has been registered in this connection by the Veeraganur police and further inquiries are on.
