Addressing a meeting of the jallikattu coordination committee held in the Collectorate, District Collector K Rajamani said the organisers must seek permission with a written petition. “They should furnish details of the participating bulls and the tamers. As per the norms, all these details should be submitted at least a day ahead of the event. Otherwise, the permission will be denied,” he said.
Detailing the norms, the Collector asked the organisers to ensure a veterinary doctor’s certificate for the bulls as well as fitness certificate for the tamers. He advised the organisers not to inflict any wound on the bulls, which should kept be sheltered away from direct sun and rain. There should be a separate path to rush the injured tamers as well as the bulls to the hospitals.
“Prior to the event, the Police Department would verify the identity cards of the tamers,” he said, instructing the Revenue officials to ensure that the events take place within permitted areas.
Permission has been given for jallikattu at Sooriyur (January 16), Avarankadu (January 17), Pothamettupatti (January 18), Navalur kuttapattu (January 19), Periya Anaikaraipatti (January 20) and Karungulam (January 27)
