Tirukkural conveys maximum sense in minimum words: Guv

“I have come across fascinating aspects of the Tamil literature, the Tamil system of medicine, Saiva Siddhantam and the Tirukkural, during the last 14 months of my stay in the state,” he said.

He said Tirukkural was appealing to the mind and sweet to the ears, conveying maximum sense in minimum words. He also said that the Siddha system of medicine traces its origins to the Podhigai hills of TN.

Meanwhile, the Governor inaugurated the 4th state conference of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Tamil Nadu state unit, at Madurai College ground on Saturday.

While thanking the farmers for their significant contribution, the Governor in his address said that India was self-sufficient in food production. 

The production of 285 million tonnes of food grains in 2017–2018 was nearly six times of that during India’s independence in 1947. The increased productivity has also boosted the income of the farmers, he said.

While Pongal festival is drawing near, the Governor was confident that the dawn of the Tamil month of ‘Thai’ in this calendar year would bring greater prosperity to the farming community. 

He cited the proverb ‘thai pirandaal vazhi pirakkum’ and said, “It will definitely prove to be a true statement of the things to come.”

Citing various government schemes, he said it was important to take the maximum advantage from these schemes and practise agriculture in a sustainable manner.
