Kongunadu Ilaingar Peravai leader and Kangeyam MLA U Thaniyarasu, is keeping options open on the stand to be taken for the Tiruvarur bypoll. He justified his stand by claiming that both the AIADMK and DMK are having similar ideologies.

“Both the Dravidian giants are leaves of the same shoot and their principles are to fight for the rights of the state. For the Parliamentary election also, I am yet to make a decision”, said Thaniyarasu, after attending the Assembly session.

Thaniyarasu along with Mukkulathor Pulipadai leader Karunas and Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi leader Thameemun Ansari, contested on the AIADMK symbol and won the elections in 2016. But recently, differences cropped up between the three MLAs and the AIADMK camp. However, Karunas, on Tuesday bridged the differences with the AIADMK by withdrawing the notice against Speaker P Dhanapal. But the stand of otehr two MLAs is still unclear.

When asked about his stand in Tiruvarur byelection, Thaniyarasu replied that he has suspicion over the Election Commission of India (ECI) in announcing the bypoll date for Tiruvarur. “When 19 other constituencies are vacant why should the ECI announce election for Tiruvarur alone. I have not decided on supporting any party and think that the byelection should be conducted along with the Parliamentary election”, said Thaniyarasu.

Meanwhile, the CPI CPM and VCK on Thursday, announced their support for the DMK in the byelection.

K Balakrishnan, State Secretary, CPI(M), told media persons said that there were 20 vacant Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu but byelection was announced only for Tiruvarur constituency which raises a suspicion on the Election Commission of India (ECI).

There is a complaint in Tiruvarur that Gaja relief was not distributed properly and under the prevailing circumstance election for Tiruvarur showed that the ECI has ulterior motive.
