Governor says TN in forefront of country’s economic growth
Governor Banwarilal Purohit said that with the present size of our GDP, in the year 2018-19 it is estimated to be Rs 33.98 lakh crore and the economic growth rates have been consistent and high making India the fastest growing major economy in the world.

Addressing the 101st Annual conference of the Indian Economic Association 2018 at Vellore on Thursday, he said India is also on the threshold of realising the full benefits of the Demographic Dividend.
The average age of the population of about 125 crore is 29 years and more than half of the population is below the age of 25 years. This augurs well for both short term and long term growth, he said.
For making labour force effective skill development, and entrepreneurship are needed. It is towards synergizing these avenues that the policies of the Centre and state are directed, he added.
He said TN has been ranked as the best state in India in the Economic Freedom Rankings. The State’s Human Development Index is second amongst large states and the socio-economic development status is enviable.
Every year, the state sees a turnout of nearly 1 million skilled persons as graduates, diploma and ITI holders.
The proposed defence corridor is a testimony to the promise and potential of the state, the Governor noted.
