Gaja-hit ryots to get Rs 149 cr
Bringing respite to the farmers affected by Cyclone Gaja, the state government on Thursday passed order sanctioning Rs 149 crore to be dispersed as livelihood package among farmers of Delta region, who had lost their horticulture and cash crops.

The order passed by the state agriculture secretary Gagandeep Singh Bedi said that the state has accepted the recommendations made by the state horticulture department which had assessed the damages to crops in Delta. The detailed order mentions about the crop damages pertaining to about 24,041 hectares spread over 12 districts of Tamil Nadu which were hit by Cyclone Gaja last month. As per the enumeration taken on December 12, the horticulture department has recommended livelihood packages and crop implementation and soil nutrient plans for the farmers.
After considering the recommendations the state has passed orders to the horticulture department to implement the schemes that will rebuild the livelihood of farmers. Mango, sapota, coffee, pepper, garlic, ornamental flowers, cashew, tamarind, vegetable crops hit by Gaja has been enumerated and the farmers who lost these crops will be rehabilitated at an outlay of Rs 53.87 crore.  Â
Transfers: The state on Thursday transferred Raja Gopal Sunkara sub collector Padmanabhapuram and posted as additional project director Gaja cyclone reconstruction and rejuvenation project. Sharanya Ari, sub collector Ambattur was posted as sub collector Padmanabhapuram.
