Private school teacher held under Posco Act

Police said that Venketesan (28), a native of Tiruvannamalai district, was working as a teacher in a private school in Arakkonam. He was staying in a rented house at Kavanur near the institution.

The girl students of Class 12 that he handled levelled sexual harassment charges against him.

The students also informed their parents that Venketesan was touching them inappropriately and used ‘double meaning’ words during conversation. Following complaints from parents, Vellore Collector SA Raman ordered District Child Welfare Officer (DCWO) Nishantini to probe into the issue.

The DCWO interacted with the girls individually and found that the allegations against Venketesan were true. Later, nearly 18 girls gave a complaint in writing about what transpired in classes handled by Venketesan. Nishantini then submitted a report. Based on the report, the collector ordered the police to initiate necessary action against Venketesan.

Arakkonam DSP Duraipandian ordered Arakkonam all women police to register a case against Venketesan under the POCSO Act. The all women police arrested Venketesan on Sunday and lodged him in the Vellore central prison.
