According to police, Manikandan (32) from Thudiyalur near Coimbatore, had frequent quarrels with his wife Poovitha (28), over domestic issues. Manikandan was running a cell phone shop at Idayarpalayam. The couple got married five years back and had two children, Devadarshini (3) and Tejas (2).
On Thursday morning, similarly, the couple quarreled over some family issue, following which Manikandan left to his cell phone shop. When Manikandan returned home at around 5.30 pm, he found his wife fast asleep with the two children.
A little later when Poovitha woke up, she found her son missing from the bed. She went searching and to her shock, she found her husband hanging in another room. She then went searching for her son.
She found the lid of the ground level water tank open and she peeped into the tank. Following this, she found that her son drowned to death. On hearing her loud cries, the neighbours arrived and informed the police. A police team rushed to the spot and sent the bodies of the father and the son to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for post-mortem.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Manikandan took the extreme step due to domestic squabbles. The Coimbatore rural police have registered a case and further inquiries are on.
