Land acquisition by NLC flayed
Residents of nearly 26 villages located around Neyveli, in Cuddalore district, staged a protest against Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) acquiring farmlands for digging up additional lignite mines, on Friday in Chennai.

The villagers claimed that already 10,000 acres of land acquired by NLC remains useless and if the company needs to be expanded, the villagers want NLC to utilise the 10,000 acres of land, where any number of mines can be setup.
However, NLC with the help of Cuddalore district administration is trying to acquire additional 12,125 acres of farm lands in 26 villages located near Neyveli. The farm lands are fertile and are highly valuable in terms of productivity, said the protesters.
Villagers also said that NLC has bad reputation of not honouring its promises, as in 1977 there was mass land acquisition with the promise that the land owners would be given compensation and job, but so far nothing was done to them.
Banking staff protest:
Stressing host of demands members of All India Bank Officers Confederation staged one day all India strike on Friday. Due to the strike the banking operations were affected and ATMs went dry.
