India, Aus researchers to do joint study on energy, storage, marine
Now, students and research scholars pursuing their higher education will have a chance to perform a joint research activity with their Australian counterparts. The Department of Science and Technology (DST) along with the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Department of Industry, Innovation, and Science (DIIS) will be providing financial support for the joint research program.

Priority areas for the research activities would be energy, storage and marine science. Director of Centre for International Affairs, Anna University, N Rajendran said, the projects will range from short bilateral collaborations to more complex projects spanning up to three years.
According to Rajendran, the airfare expenses for the Indian researchers travelling to Australia to take part in the collaborative research projects, would be borne by the government. In addition to this, basic expenses including accommodation and meals would also be taken care.
The selection process involves scrutinizing of the submitted proposals. The merit for the proposed research would be accessed, including, the potential of the anticipated outcome and if it can advance the knowledge base of the discipline, and if it is likely that scientific impact would be taken into consideration.
Other assessments include, the ability of the project to improve the available technical application, the commercialisation value of research outcomes and to contribute to the economic growth and diversity (including gender) in both India and Australia.
The research collaboration should be beneficial for any environmental, social or other causes and must contribute to diversity of India and Australia.
Selected projects would be advance and made ready for implementation.
“The proposals will form the basis for funding agreement between the Australian Government and successful applicants,” Rajendran said. Project arrangements would be suitable and key milestones met to ensure the objectives of the activity can be achieved, even if any issues arise it can also be managed, he added.
