Responding to a question on the case against the recent movie Seethakaathi during his interaction with the media at the Chennai airport on Thursday, he said that it was an unfortunate trend. He added that those who find films objectionable must first watch them before raising any concerns. “Calling for a ban on films is curbing of free speech,” he stated.

Kamal also commented on the issue of investigating officer Pon Manickavel under pressure in the idol theft case. He said that those working with the officer have complained against him but he has denied their claims. Such a situation warrants that both sides’ claims be examined before taking sides. He added that it was difficult for honest people to work as they come under pressure from politicians.

On the ongoing issue between actor Vishal and the Tamil Nadu Film Producers’ Council, Kamal said that both sides must be open to dialogue and reflection, and that Vishal and those involved must be ready for self-examination. He added that it was not possible to take sides without knowing the whole truth.
