Vaiko condemns Centre for draft mariculture policy

In a statement, Vaiko criticised the BJP-led government for making repeated attempts to invade the space of coastal communities.

“Earlier, the Central Government tried to grab the land of fishermen through the Sagarmala project. Now, through the draft National Mariculture Policy, it is trying to take over the land of fishermen and handover it to corporates,” said Vaiko. “By taking over the sea, the Central Government is also trying to handover islands rich with natural resources for commercial purposes”, said Vaiko.

He further said nature can maintain the balance by having the right number of marine species, but by setting up cages and introducing chemical food for faster growth of fishes, the government is making the sea infertile.
