Navy-Amirta Univ MoU for academic collaboration
Indian Navy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham for academic and research collaboration at the University’s campus in Coimbatore on Wednesday.

The agreement was exchanged between Vice Admiral Anil Kumar Chawla, AVSM, NM, VSM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command (SNC) and Dr P Venkat Rangan, Vice Chancellor of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.
This MoU encompasses fields of mechanical engineering, electronics and communication, computer science and other areas of mutual interest such as bioscience, medical and cybersecurity.
Vice Admiral AK Chawla emphasized on the essentiality of such partnerships in academia between the armed forces and civil establishments towards developing new technologies, for providing out-of-box solutions to complex technological issues and also in pursuing the mission of ‘Make in India’. He added that signing of this MoU between Indian Navy and an esteemed academic establishment, would form the foundation for the exchange of ideas and development of new technologiesin the future.
Southern Naval Command, the Training Command of the Indian Navy, focuses on providing quality training to all Navy personnel. Indian Navy has already reached out and inked Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs) with some of the best institutions of excellence in the country to leverage the potential of external expertise in different technical domains and to nurture a ‘collaborative training’ model with an aim to provide the trainees with the highest academic standards.
The first of such MoUs was inked with Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in 2002, under which the university recognizes the course curriculum of all training establishments and awards M Tech, MSc, PG Diploma, BSc and Diploma certificates to the passing out trainees. Similar MoUs have also been inked with various educational institutions across the country.
