“The DMK was in alliance with the BJP at the Centre and then switched over to the Congress. The DMK could have resolved the Cauvery, Mullaiperiyar, Palar and Mekedatu issues. But they focussed only on the family rule and failed to do any good for Tamil Nadu. They are now targeting the AIADMK with a false campaign as if nothing was being done,” he said.

Stating that AIADMK MPs are fighting by stalling the parliament against the Mekedatu project, the Chief Minister said: “Did the DMK stage any dharna in parliament over the Cauvery dispute when it was part of the Congress alliance? Our MPs stalled the parliament for about 23 days. Infact, the DMK is the reason behind all these troubles. Despite being in power, they let loose the opportunity to act. Now the AIADMK is fighting to secure our rights.”

Palaniswami also called upon the people to compare both the DMK rule and the present ‘Amma’ government, which has been implementing all its poll promises. On his letter to the Prime Minister opposing the Dam Safety Bill, the Chief Minister said: “Our MPs have also explained to the Centre on the dangers that may befall Tamil Nadu because of the bill. We hope the Centre scraps it.”

Palaniswami also said the State Government would continue to exert pressure on the Centre to secure the rights of people inTamil Nadu.

On former Transport Minister Senthil Balaji’s remarks that the AIADMK is a sinking ship, he recalled that Balaji had first contested for the post of councillor as a DMK man.

“He then joined the AIADMK, where he got identified by becoming a minister. He has now become thankless,” he said. The Chief Minister, who is on a visit to Salem, took a tour of the district. He inaugurated welfare projects, laid foundation stone for new works and addressed public in many places.
