Responding to a query from reporters at his residence on whether the Central government is acting against Tamil Nadu in Mekedatu dam issue, the 2.0 star said that the Centre had told the apex court that there would be no impact on the Tamil Nadu’s share of water.

“However, we should check the facts behind the claim. If TN government finds out that the Mekedatu dam would affect TN’s water share, then legal recourse should be taken to protect interests of the state. It is the only way to solve the issue,” Rajinikanth told reporters outside his Poes Garden residence.

Earlier, while commenting on the BJP’s losses in elections, the actor who seemed to be leaning towards the saffron party had said that it had lost its influence among the people.

Special session of Pondy Assembly on Friday

A special session of the territorial Assembly will be convened on Friday to adopt a resolution condemning Karnataka’s move to construct a dam across Cauvery at Mekedatu and to press the Centre to withdraw the permission granted to Karnataka to prepare a detailed project report (DPR).

The session is being convened following a demand from DMK and opposition AIADMK.

Both the parties have given their resolutions on the issue and urged to convert them into a government resolution and adopt it unanimously.
