A year after inspector S Periyapandian died of a bullet injury from a pistol that was accidentally fired by his colleague during an operation in Rajasthan, police officers remembered him by paying homage at the Maduravoyal police station on Thursday.

Meanwhile, a stone plaque from Chennai Commissionerate was erected at the memorial built for the slain police officer by his family at his native village near Sanakarankoil in Tirunelveli. Senior officers, including Anna Nagar Deputy Commissioner M Sudhakar, from Chennai paid homage at the memorial.
While the police personnel in Maduravoyal police station distributed free food for elderly persons, his family members and police personnel at his native village gave away free books and clothes to school students.
Periyapandian was accidentally shot by inspector Muni Sekhar, who was a part of the team that went hunting for Nathuram, the main suspect in a jewellery shop heist. The incident happened in Rampurkalan village in Pali district when a five-member police team from Chennai went looking for the suspects in an abandoned brick kiln factory.
