AIADMK Flag Pole row: Salem Collector appears in court
Salem District Collector Rohini R Bhajibhakare and Divisional Engineer, Highways (Operation and Maintenance) appeared before the Madras High Court on Thursday in connection with a plea seeking the removal of the AIADMK flagpole situated in front of a bus stop at Pulavari Village, Nalkarapatti Union, Salem District.
Chennai
A division bench comprising Justice M Sathyanarayana and Justice P Rajamanickam before whom the collector along with Divisional Engineer appeared based on a direction offered on December 1, sought time to file a counter report. Based on this, the bench on dispensing with their personal appearance, posted the case for further hearing to January 22.Â
The bench then directed their appearance on the date with relevant records as well as the counter affidavit with supporting documents. The PIL had contended that people living in and around the Pulavari village were using the bus stop situated in section road adjacent to NH-47.Â
Hence, for the convenience of the people, a Shadow Hall was constructed at a cost of Rs 7 lakh from the MLA’s fund. While doing so, without obtaining any permission from the authorities, the AIADMK party members planted the AIADMK flagstaff in front of the said bus stop, posing a grave traffic hazard to pedestrians and vehicular traffic in the area. The Judge further noted that as the administration failed to act on his representation, he had no choice but to move the court.
