According to a Corporation official, the civic body has taken steps to rejuvenate 210 tanks and lakes in the city. “We have almost completed the restoration of 50 water bodies under Smart City Mission.
Restoration works of 10 lakes are taken up with the Chennai Corporation’s capital fund. Nearly 30 lakes will be restored with the corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds from various companies and NGOs,” the official said.
Meanwhile, the civic body has initiated actions to restore the remaining 130 lakes and the preparation of detailed project reports (DPR) for their restoration is underway.
In another development in restoring the remaining water bodies, the Chennai Corporation convened a meeting, on Monday, in which the officials from Revenue Department, Public works Department and a few other departments and discussed the restoration project.
“We have asked the departments to assist in the restoration of the water bodies and submit a report and available data pertaining to the encroaching structures. The report will be helpful to complete the restoration,” the official added.
The Corporation official hinted that the eviction of encroachments on the water bodies would be done based on the report.
