Busy Minister delays park inauguration in Kattankulathur
Residents of Nalampakkam near Kattankulathur in Kancheepuram district have been waiting for the inauguration of the park that was built in their neighbourhood for nearly six months now. Sources said that the park remains closed as a State Minister has not yet given his appointment for the inauguration ceremony, resulting in the inordinate delay.

The Nalampakkam village panchayat, coming under the Kattankulathur panchayat union is home to thousands of families. According to reliable sources, the panchayat union has built the park with a gym in the Nalampakkam village under the rural development scheme at an approximate cost of Rs 30 lakh.
Residents claim that the park has become the den of anti-social elements and they have damaged the play equipment installed in the facility as the park remains closed for the public. They also said that the pathway, which was laid for walkers, has also been damaged.
“There is stagnant water around the park due to the recent rains and the municipality is yet to clean it,” claimed Sumathi Sundaram, a resident of the village. “We shifted here two months ago. We see anti-social elements using the park regularly. The officials should ensure that the park is opened soon before all the equipment are damaged,” she added.
When contacted, Kattankulathur Block Development Officer (BDO) R Muthu said that the stagnant water will be removed soon and the park will be opened. “ We could not open the park as the minister has not given us the appointment yet. Soon the damaged items will be repaired and the park will be inaugurated within a month,” said the BDO. However, he refused to reveal the identity of the Minister who did not give an appointment for the inauguration ceremony.
