A petition filed by Traffic Ramaswamy, social activist, came up for hearing before the Division Bench of Justices KK Sasidharan and PD Audikesavalu. The petitioner claimed that the Health Minister and hundred others without wearing helmets went on an awareness campaign in line with medical camp held at Iluppur in Pudukkottai district recently. Despite having lodged complaint with the Iluppur police citing violation of traffic rules and against High Court order, no action had been taken against Vijaya Baskar and others. Moreover, Chellappa and 200 others, who were cadre of the AIADMK, gathered and staged demonstration against Vijay starrer ‘Sarkar’ in front of a cinema theatre at Anna Nagar in Madurai on November 8. They tore up flex banners of the movie put up on the premises of the theatre. Such acts by Chellappa and his men affected vehicular traffic and tended to affect law and order situation in the city.

Despite taking the issue with the local police concerned, no action had been taken. Hence, the petitioner sought the bench to direct the police to file cases against them and initiate appropriateaction.

On hearing the petition, the bench adjourned the case to December 17.
