Talking to mediapersons at the secretariat, the Congress MLAs who also met Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and donated a month’s salary for the cyclone relief works, said they had asked the CM as to what measures were taken and would be taken by the ruling AIADMK to prevent Karnataka from constructing a dam in Mekedatu.
When asked if they could persuade their ally Janata Dal (S) to stop the project, an evasive Ramasamy said the Karnataka government was confident of securing a favourable verdict and that they have come to express the concerns of delta farmers.
When reporters sought to know if the Congress MLAs could prevail upon the party high command on the issue, the CLP said they would get into a huddle and discuss before taking it up with the AICC leadership.
Asked to reveal its stand should the party come to power at the Centre, Ramasamy said a Congress led government was a certainty and added that such a government would certainly act in favour of Tamil Nadu.
On whether Mekedatu would be an irritant in the DMK-Congress ties, he said there was no confusion in the alliance and both parties were keen on working together. Meanwhile, the DMK led opposition would hold a massive agitation in Tiruchy today in protest of the Centre granting approval for the DPR prepared for the dam.
