    Swine flu claims three lives in Kovai

    Swine flu deaths have resurfaced again claiming three more lives, including two elderly men, in Coimbatore district in the last 24 hours.

    Deaths due to swine flu was a daily affair over the last two months in the district. However, in a sign of slow down, no such deaths were reported over the past one week. However, ending this positive phase, deaths resurfaced again.


    Velayutham (65) from Bharathi Nagar near Podanur was suffering from fever since the last three weeks. He was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) on November 11 and was later diagnosed with swine flu.


    His condition deteriorated and Velayutham succumbed to the flu, despite treatment, on Saturday night.


    Sixty-one-year-old Palanisamy from Anna Nagar near Neelambur was admitted to a private hospital with fever and breathlessness.


    After he was diagnosed with swine flu, Palanisamy was shifted to CMCH on November 30. His condition worsened and he died on Saturday night without responding to treatment.


    In another incident, Periakka (51) from Sundarapuram was admitted to a private hospital with fever and she was tested positive for swine flu. She died on Sunday.


    Of the 85 persons undergoing treatment for fever in CMCH, 21 are being treated for swine flu, four for dengue and 69 for viral fever.


    More than 60 persons have succumbed to swine flu and dengue in Coimbatore over the past two months alone.
