Mekedatu: DMK, allies to hold protest in Tiruchy on Dec 4
The DMK led all-party meeting on Thursday urged the state government to immediately convene a special session of the state Assembly to pass a resolution compelling the Centre to cancel the permission it has given to Karnataka to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Mekedatu Balancing Reservoir-cum-Drinking water project across river Cauvery.

The meeting chaired by DMK president MK Stalin also advised the ruling AIADMK to register its condemnation to the biased approach of the Centre in the ensuing meeting of the Cauvery Management Authority.
The Opposition parties also resolved that the state government should move the Supreme Court and legally annul the permission granted by the Centre to Karnataka.
The meeting, which was held in a day’s notice, also announced an agitation in Tiruchy on December 4 to press the Union government to cancel the permission granted to Karnataka in violation of final verdict of the apex court on Cauvery issue.
The lone resolution adopted in the meeting also made an appeal to Karnataka to stop engaging in unilateral acts like construction of a new dam across Cauvery River, which would jeopardize the agricultural and drinking water requirements ofTamil Nadu.
“Construction of a new dam without consulting Tamil Nadu would spoil the bonhomie between the two states and the spirit of federalism,” the resolution said, criticising Karnataka of disobeying court verdicts from the beginning.
Registering the alleged failure of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his Ministers to prevent the Centre from giving its assent to Karnataka’s DPR, the meeting also expressed regret that selfish approach of the ruling AIADMK was causing great deal of harm to the state.
The meeting was attended by Vaiko (MDMK), V Anburaj (Dravidar Kazhagam), S Thirunavukkarasar (Congress), K Balakrishnan (CPM), R Mutharasan (CPI), KAM Muhammed Abubakkar (IUML), Thol Thirumavalavan (VCK) and Abdul Samadh (Manithaneya Makkal Katchi).
Stalin also flagged off Rs 1 crore worth relief material from party headquarters Anna Arivalayam to cyclone affected delta districts.
Tamilisai slams it as mere ‘alliance’ meet
BJP state president slammed the all party meeting organised by the DMK and said on Thursday that it was a meeting to ensure alliance and not for any public interest. She assured that the dam across Mekedatu cannot be possible without Tamil Nadu government’s permission. Tamilisai was here on the way to visit Cyclone Gaja-hit regions along with Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. She told reporters that the Union government has given nod just to conduct inspection for the possibility of constructing the dam across the Mekedatu and without the permission of Tamil Nadu, no dam can be built across Cauvery in Karnataka.
All the four southern states should grant permission to construct the dam, she added. “Without knowing the fact, this (permission) has been politicised. And DMK president MK Stalin has convened an all party meeting. It is not that kind of meeting but a meet to ensure the alliance,” Tamilisai said and attacked that the DMK is not bold enough even to declare openly whether MDMK and VCK are with them.
