    The Justice A Arumughaswamy commission probing the death of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa received the testimony from an Apollo Hospitals critical care unit technician Punjabikesan.

    He was asked about the leaked video of Jayalalithaa where she had been shown consuming juice. Asked to describe the room that she had been receiving treatment in, Punjabikesan said that the room had blinds.


    However, in the video the view from the window was visible. To this, Punjabikesan is said to have told the Commission that the blinds could have been opened at the time the video was shot.


    He also said that four security officers were present at the entrance to the room and frisked all those who entered the room. He added that all the facilities in CCU were available in the ward that Jayalalithaa had been receiving treatment in.


    Meanwhile, Apollo Hospitals’ infectious diseases expert Dr Ram Gopalkrishnan had told the enquiry commission that the bacterial infection contracted by her had been cured by November 15, 2016.


    The doctors told the commission that the ailing former chief minister had been suffering from endococcus bacterial infection. However, the infection had been treated and cured by mid-November.


    The expert was questioned on the discrepancy between his statement and the final report of Apollo hospitals which stated that endocarditis and respiratory distress were listed as the cause of death. Dr Ram is said to have responded that he was not aware of the details present in the final report and death certificate.
