Chennai
A Tangedco statement said, “The deadline for paying electricity bill for people in cyclone affected areas such as Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Tiruchy Metro (Manaparai and Tiruchy east), Pudukottai and Nagapattinam division, has been extended till December 5.”
Electricity department is one of the worst hit departments in cyclone Gaja as more than 1.13 lakh electric posts along with several hundreds of transformers and substations were damaged completely.
To provide temporary relief for people affected by cyclone, the electricity department initially extended the deadline for paying electricity bills, from November 25 to November 30. Now, for the second time the deadline for payment had been extended by the electricity department.
Tangedco officials said that electricity has not been restored in several areas in Delta districts and therefore, the Department did not want to tax people by paying their electricity bills. Besides, people affected by the cyclone have not recovered fully to pay the electricity bills, said the officials.
