This move by Anna University came after the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, in August 2018, had unearthed the scam in which GV Uma, the former controller of examinations, was identified as the prime accused in the irregularities that involved awarding marks during re-evaluation for a consideration. Along with her, a few other faculty members and seven examiners have been booked in the case.

Dr Srinivasalu, Additional Controller of Examinations, Anna University, told DT Next on Wednesday that the new re-evaluation system will be implemented this academic year onwards.

“At present, the new re-evaluation process will be applicable to both UG and PG students pursuing various courses in Anna University campus colleges”, he added.

Srinivasalu said that earlier, the re-evaluation system was done across a span of three months and students would have no clue about the fate of their answer sheets during the period. “If a student opted for a review, he/she has had to pay Rs 3,000 - this could be avoided in the new scheme”, he added.

“The new system is implemented for transparency in the re-evaluation process so that students do not have any complaints”, he said.

Explaining about the new re-evaluation method, he said the students must apply for evaluation within 15 days after the results are announced. “After taking the list, all the answer scripts will be sent to the department concerned”, he said adding “we have already formed a subject-wise committee so that the re-evaluation will be taken up immediately”.

He said the re-evaluation will be done by an expert in the presence of the course instructor, head of the department and the student. “Soon after the evaluation, the answer script will be signed by the three faculties”, he added.

Srinivasalu pointed out that the new re-evaluation method will also be implemented to Anna University’s affiliated colleges across Tamil Nadu, shortly after conducting a study involving the vice chancellor and the controller of examinations along with other experts.
