    The government had earlier ordered the permanent closure of the factory sighting public safety as the reason.

    In response to the report submitted by the Tarun Aggarwal committee that shutting down Sterlite Copper against natural justice, the National Green Tribunal has announced that the industry can resume functioning under certain conditions. 

    The permanent closure is not justified and so are the reasons behind the closure, the report said.

    The court has adjourned further hearing on the case to 7th of December. The court has also asked for the submission of reports from both the sides

    The Tribunal has also said that the Tamil Nadu government should submit its petition within a week’s time.

    Reacting to the Tribunal's decision Kadambur Raju, Minister of Information and Publicity, said that the decision to open or close the factory still rests in the hands of the government.
