Rs 1 crore to tackle mosquito menace

In a release issued by the Health Department, Health Minister Dr C Vijaya Baskar said that the amount was distributed to Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram and other affected areas. The Health Department has been, for the past 10 days, taking many precautionary measures to avoid the spread of any disease. 

A total of 126 mobile medical vehicles were sent out for relief. Over 152 vehicles from the 108-ambulance service were kept aside for the relief work. Nearly, 48 teams from the Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drugs Administration, 253 teams for Chlorine testing and 257 pest control teams were engaged in the relief works, the Minister added.

Besides these teams, a total of 600 doctors and nurses have been helping with treating people. About 6,059 medical camps were set up in the districts and a total of 3.94 lakh persons had received treatment in these camps, he stated.

As many as 68,234persons got tested in the 340 medical camps that were set up in private institutions in the state under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) and around 2,127 people were prescribed for higher treatment. A total of 312 Special medical camps focussing on Indian medicine were also set up and the Nilavembu Kudineer was provided to around 17.9 lakh people at the camps, a statement from the ministry added.
