Software glitch hits free bus pass for school students in Vellore
A technical glitch in the software used by the TN State Transport Corporation (Villupuram) has resulted in students of government and government aided schools in Vellore district not getting their free bus passes for the current academic year.
Vellore
“89,000 students in Vellore district enjoy the free bus pass facility. But due to the software problem, applications from students are still with the individual schools and have not been handed over to the TNSTC officials,” said a school education official.
Transport department officials had initially extended the validity of passes issued for the previous year till the end of August. But with the issue yet to be resolved, they have now announced a further extension till the end of December. Also, to prevent problems due to students not carrying passes, bus conductors have been advised not to collect fares from students who board buses in uniform.
A few aggrieved students, however, have complained that some conductors are yet to know about the latest extension. Usually, the school education department ensures that the passes are provided to students along with free uniforms and text books without anydelay.
