Four die of swine flu in Kovai, Salem
Deaths due to swine flu continue unabated in the western region as four more persons, all women, succumbed within a 24-hour span in Coimbatore and Salem districts.

With the latest fatalities, sources said the death toll in the last two months has now touched 70 in Coimbatore district.
A further 44 people diagnosed with swine flu are currently undergoing treatment at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). Doctors at the hospital are treating 4 persons for dengue and 64 others for viral fever.
Sources said Annapoorani (60), a resident of Kottur in Coimbatore, was down with a severe fever over the last few days. She was admitted to the Pollachi Government Hospital. As she was diagnosed with swine flu, Annapoorani was shifted to the CMCH for further treatment. She died on Thursday night. Another patient identified as Gomathy (38) died at a private hospital here without responding to treatment on Friday. Elsewhere in Salem, Amutha (60) and Thangamani (46) died at the Salem Government Hospital on the same day.
Amutha, a resident of Kengavalli in Salem district, was admitted in a private hospital for fever. As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to the Salem GH on November 21. Thangamani from Perundurai in Erode district was also admitted in the Salem GH on November 21. Around 15 people are undergoing treatment for swine flu at the Salem GH, while more than 100 others are being treated for viral fever.
