Central team to visit TN today
A Central team will land in Tamil Nadu on Friday to assess the damages caused by cyclone Gaja, a day after Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami met Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking relief for the affected districts.

“The central team to visit the cyclone-affected areas comprises five members and would be headed by Daniel E.Richards, Joint Secretary, Union Home Department,” said a Secretariat official.
Gaja inflicted heavy damage upon delta districts as 63 people died and properties worth several crores of rupees were damaged. Large number of trees were uprooted and several cattle also perished.
In the meeting with Modi, Palaniswami had requested Modi to send a central team to Tamil Nadu which could assess damages caused by the cyclone.
According to sources, the team will hold a meeting with Palaniswami on Friday and then proceed to the affected districts on Saturday to commence on the assessment.
Though the team is expected to carry out the assessment for three days, they might extend it for another day, depending on circumstances, the official added.
Monsoon deficit dips to 45 per cent after downpour
With intermittent rain set to continue for another 24 hours, the city has received 31 cm against the normal 66 cm during this year’s northeast monsoon. Also, rainfall during the last two days has brought down the State’s deficit from 60 per cent to 45 per cent.
Pradeep John, November 21 was the wettest day this year so far. An RMC official also said, “Since the onset of NE monsoon, the city recorded its maximum rainfall (9 cm), on Wednesday. It can be identified as the wettest day of this season so far.”
