Wife among 2 held for murdering labourer

Police said that Ravi (45), a local labourer, was married to Mari (38) and the couple was residing at Boopathay Nagar in Arcot. On August 24, it is said that Ravi was found missing and his wife, Mari, lodged a ‘man missing’ complaint with the Arcot taluk police.

When Arcot police recovered an unidentified body from near the Tajpura irrigation tank, they asked Mari to identify the body. However, Mari said that the deceased was not her husband.

During police interrogation Mari, who initially contradictory replies, finally admitted to having murdered Ravi. The woman told the cops that she had an illicit relationship with Murugan (48), a resident of Azhividaithangi village near Vembakkam in Tiruvannamalai district. When her husband came to know about her affair with Murugan, he reprimanded and asked to abort the relationship. Irked by this, she along with her partner hatched a plot to bump off Ravi.

On August 24, when Ravi was drunk, Mari and Murugan beat him with logs and killed him. Later, they disposed his body near the Tajpura irrigation tank. Following the confession, police arrested Mari and Murugan, who were remanded to custody on Monday.
