Unite to provide relief to Cyclone Gaja victims, says Kamal

The actor-politician released a statement welcoming Tamil Nadu government’s move to declare the quantum of relief sanction and urged the state government to request the Centre to declare the calamity as a Level 3 disaster in order to claim necessary funds for rebuilding. 

Kamal urged the state government to take precautionary steps as more rainfall is predicted in the region in the coming days. Focus must also be on employment and rebuilding of local economy. “Necessities like water, food and electricity should be made available to the affected people immediately. There is substantial delay in the affected people getting water even for their basic needs. Water is equivalent to life saving drugs under these dire circumstances. The government should avoid its usual lethargic response and ensure that water is made available to these people immediately. This will prevent breakout of epidemics that normally follow such large-scale disasters,” he stated.
