On Tuesday, two revenue inspectors were detained by villagers in Orathanadu for more than two hours seeking immediate relief, official sources told DT Next. Pelting of stones, damaging official cars and abusive language are also reported in Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur districts where the damages are high.

“The Ministers and senior IAS officials enjoy police protection, whereas revenue officials lack such protective cover and further we go to the field to assess the actual damages and this makes the revenue department officials vulnerable,” admitted an officer in the ranks of revenue divisional officer.

The EB officials also face such issues, however, they manage the situation as their job is confined to the restoration of power, the RDO explained.

Meanwhile, Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar urged the public, particularly the youngsters, to help the government servants working round the clock involved in restoring the cyclone hit infrastructure.
