The low-pressure area, that now lies well-marked over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal as of Monday, is likely to concentrate into a depression and move towards Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast, said S Balachandran, the deputy director general of the Regional Meteorological Department.

The rain-bearing clouds would bring rain to interior districts during this period, officials said.

Since the onset of monsoon, the city has received only 21 cm rainfall against the normal 51 cm as of November 19 – translating into a deficit of 60 per cent. The figures are similar in TN, receiving only 24 cm against the 30 cm during the same period.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea over the Southwest Bay for the next two days.

The city will have an overcast sky with possibility of rain or thundershower at few places. Minimum and maximum temperatures are 23 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius. In the past 24 hours, Coonoor received 7 cm of rainfall, Mettupalayam, 6 cm and Bhavani, 4 cm.
