TN CM sanctions Rs 1,000 crore, to visit Delta districts today
Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday announced immediate release of Rs 1,000 crore towards cyclone Gaja relief and rehabilitation works in Delta districts. He will visit the cyclone-hit areas on Tuesday.

Palaniswami, who took stock of the cyclone relief works at a high-level meeting here attended by his cabinet colleagues, said that those who had lost their houses will be compensated Rs 10,000 and in case of partial damage, the compensation has been fixed at Rs 4,100. As an immediate livelihood compensation, each family will get Rs 5,000 and another Rs 3,800 will be provided for the victims to buy clothes and utensils, he said in a statement.
Admitting that the cyclone had caused severe damage to the Delta districts, the CM announced Rs 2,64,000 per hectare for coconut farms and Rs 13,500 per hectare of paddy, sugarcane, banana and horticulture crops. The State will provide 100 per cent subsidy for those taking up drip irrigation. In case of fishermen, Rs 42,000 will be given for fully damaged catamarans. For fibre boats, Rs 85,000 will be provided and fully damaged mechanised boats will get Rs 5 lakh as compensation, the Chief Minister said.
The statement said the state was providing temporary relief to 2,51,674 people through 514 relief camps. The relief camps provide food, basic medicine and water to all those evacuated. Aavin had been directed to ensure milk supply in all the cyclone-affected areas. Senior citizens and children stationed in these camps are also attended by doctors and over 97,000 people have been screened in the camps. The State will also consider providing financial assistance for those willing to rebuild their damaged hutments and houses, he said.
