Talking to mediapersons here, Namasivayam said Puducherry was not majorly affected by the cyclone due to the adequate measures taken by the administration.
“However, Karaikal region was ravaged. No loss of life has been reported due to the precautions taken in advance,” he said.
According to Namasivayam, as many as 250 electric poles were damaged and work to set them right is on a war footing.
“Minister Kamalakannan is camping in Karaikal and supervising the restoration works. Where power is not available, water supply is being provided with the help of generator,” he added.
The Minister said the Karaikal District Collector has been advised to submit a report on the loss suffered and the report would be forwarded to the Central Government.
“The much-affected Karaikal region would be provided with relief,” he said, adding that the fishermen will be compensated for the loss of their livelihood.
“An interim relief has been sought from the Centre,” Namasivayam added.
