In the last fifteen days, 15,613 tonnes of gypsum and 6,127 tonnes of rock phosphate have been evacuated, Collector Sandeep Nanduri said on Monday. Currently, the remaining volume of both these chemicals were being cleared. Copper concentrate is the key chemical substance, which needs to be evacuated from the plant, and preparatory activities were on to carry that out, the Collector said.

About 99 per cent of rock phosphate has so far been evacuated and dust particles were cleared. On a daily basis, about 1,500 tonnes to 2,000 tonnes of gypsum were cleared depending on weather conditions. The copper concentrate would be evacuated within a month, the Collector added.

Earlier, he said a fine of Rs five lakh was imposed on those who were found harbouring mosquito breeding spots as part of dengue control measures this month. He also urged all the residents and commercial establishments to ensure that their premises had no water stagnation that can become a source for breeding of mosquitoes.
